Afternoon with Bee Gees.

BEE Gees Barry and Robin Gibb's arrival at Douglas Town Hall in the Isle of Man today

was heralded with a performance from Ballacottier School's junior choir.  The brothers and their late sibling Maurice were made Freemen of the Borough.

The honour was bestowed on them in recognition of their contribution to music over the past 50 years.

As the brothers arrived for the private ceremony in the council chamber they were greeted by the 38-strong Ballacottier School junior choir singing Roll Away by Davy Knowles.

Just last night the children performed at the school's end of term concert and head teacher John Rhodes thought it would be great to get the children to sing for the BeeGees.

James Davis, who is a parent, contacted Douglas Council leader David Christian to propose the plan while Ballacottier music teacher Katie Lawrence contacted Davy, who is in the States, via Facebook to seek his permission to perform the song. Davy replied that it would be 'an honour'.

The Gibb brothers were born in the Isle of Man and for a time lived in a corporation house in Willaston. Robin now owns a home in Knocksharry, German.

Other Freemen of the Borough include Winston Churchill, TT legend Geoff Duke, Sir Norman Wisdom and cycling star Mark Cavendish
